Motorcycle gloves
There are many different styles of motorcycle glove to suit just about every kind of riding situation, and if you ride across the seasons, it is likely that you will have to equip yourself with more than one pair of gloves. For summer riding, and when it’s dry, it’s hard to argue against leather motorcycle gloves. It’s comfortable to wear, has strength for abrasion resistance, and gives the rider good feel at the controls. You could equally go for a textile version, but in essence a summer glove has no membrane. But leather is not good in the rain, as it simply absorbs moisture. This can leave you feeling both wet and cold. When it’s cold but dry, you may want to go for a padded leather glove. Every biker will probably also need a pair of waterproof motorcycle gloves. These can either be a summer weight, called a summer waterproof glove; or, for when it is cold and wet, an insulated and waterproof glove, known as a winter glove. Of course, from a style perspective, there are dozens of different designs that allow you to match your glove to the style of bike you ride.
We particularly like and recommend Richa gloves and Held gloves. Both companies started out as glove manufacturers so they really know gloves. Richa make very highly spec'd gloves at very competitive prices. Held make quite unique gloves and in a good range of sizing including short-fingered versions.

Halvarssons Duved gloves in black
Super warm, great fit and feel on the bars without all the bulk often associated with winter gloves. Kept my hands warm on a 5 hour motorway trek from Liverpool down to Plymouth in temps between 2 - 3 degrees, no probs along with my heated grips. Ordered a pair in size 9 and a pair in size 10, to try both on, with the intention of sending a pair back. My mate was so impressed when he saw them he bought the size 10s off me there and then.
Rukka Thermo-G GTX glove in black
These gloves are cleverly designed they are short enough to be a doddle to put on under cuffs yet long enough to seal out drafts. Gore Grip gives good dexterity and waterproofing, and the all-important visor wipe works well. These gloves are not for Arctic conditionsmy fingers freeze below 5 Cbut are ideal for autumn, mild winter, and cool spring days. Why did I not buy them earlier? The lack of protection for the pinkie and the base of the thumb put me off. CE Level 2 protection would have reassured me, but these gloves are only Level 1 KP. Considering Five and Keis offer CE Level 2 winter gloves, Rukka is behind the Level 2 times. The pinkie finger only has one layer of leather on the edge of the hand, but it needs a double layer to guard against low sides. The gloves have a suitable-sized scaphoid protector. However, they lack a vital extra layer of leather over the stitching at the base of the thumb. Held Cold Champ gloves show how this protection should be done. Curiously, the scaphoid protector is rubber it may absorb some impact but not slide effectively. Protection niggles aside, the ThermoG+ gloves are great.
Warm & Safe Ultimate Touring heated gloves
Paired with my Warm and Safeheated base layer these gloves make winter riding a pleasure. The dual heat controller is so easy to use and keeps me comfortable without getting too hot yet never feeling too cold either. In a word brilliant The only minor niggle is that I would like to see a better method of attaching the controller to the handlebars rather than a Velcro pad to the clutch reservoir.
