Spidi Rain Warrior 2 gloves in black

The Spidi Rain Warrior gloves have formed part of the company's line up for some years, although the 2 is the latest iteration of it. We have not offered these gloves before, but when I visited the factory a couple of years ago they gave me a pair to try. It's an old trick, I suppose, but it worked. I rode in them a fair amount last year, and I liked them; such that we have decided to introduce them into our range.

 

The Rain Warrior is a summer-waterproof glove. Now this is the type of glove you could wear from the end of March through to the end of October, but the Rain Warrior's focus is very much on the warmer days and months.

 

And that's because it's very lightweight and very well vented. Down all the fingers, along the thumb, and on the wrist, you get large areas of mesh that are going to flow lots of air. And what that means is that this is a glove you'd be happy to ride in if you were touring in France, Spain or Italy. It will be comfortable to ride in in higher temperatures, but if the heavens were to open your hands would still remain dry.

 

Of course, if you were in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, or somewhere harsher and more extreme, like Scotland or Wales, your hands would still be dry in the rain, bit it's unlikely that they would keep your hands warm enough.

 

The membrane is laminated to the inner surface of the glove. And what that means is that the glove won't wet out. It also explains why the gloves feel light, because a laminated membrane reduces bulk.

 

On the back of the hand you get Spidi's own Warrior knuckle protector that is backed with foam for comfort. There are rubber bumpers on the fingers. You also get a warrior slide protector at the base of the palm. There's an extra layer of leather down the outside of the hand.

 

Because the glove is unlined, it's very comfortable; something that is also helped by the Neoprene that features on the top side of the glove, around the knuckle protector, and into the wrist area.

 

On the palm there's a second layer of material for better purchase on the controls. You get touchscreen-sensitive fingers, although you have to use the pads of your fingers rather than the tips.

 

There's some hi-viz built in to the Spidi logo. You also get a lovely, wide, really stretchy wrist strap that allows to to cinch the cuff of the glove very tightly. It means the glove's cuff will fit inside the sleeve of just about any jacket. It also means that the glove will never come off in an accident.

 

So that's the Rain Warrior. Perfect perhaps for the fair-weather rider who doesn't venture out in the real cold. It could also be the perfect glove for touring where the general direction is a southerly one. As is always the case, this is a glove that won't work for everybdy. But for some it will work very well indeed.
