Open Face Motorcycle Helmets

Whilst an open-face helmet is great fun when the sun is out, and you’re pottering about, for any serious riding you will probably want a full-face helmet. First, of course, a full-face helmet, with its integrated chin-bar, is much safer. There are plenty of photographs on Google of motorcyclists who have had an accident whilst wearing an open-face helmet, and they’re not pretty! There are many kinds of full-face helmet. Race style helmets will have vents, spoilers and, frequently, lairy graphics. Race helmets, though, were not designed for the road, and are often noisy. Arai is a famous brand in the race market. In common with many other race helmets, no Arai full-face lid has a drop-down sun visor, a very useful convenience for road riding. Some full-face helmets are designed specifically for touring and commuting. Others have more of an adventure riding feel. These adventure helmets will often have a longer nose and larger visor area, and can sometimes be worn with goggles.

Shoei JO helmet in black

Steve C: Noisy

I bought this helmet to wear on my Harley. It looks great, is beautifully made, and the visor is discreet, so you dont look nerdy on the cool-look Harley. The real issue is the level of noise when riding. But for this, I would have opted for 5 stars. To add some perspective, I only ever use ear plugs on a long run on my tourer. With this helmet, the high pitch whine sounds like a jet engine in each ear, even at 40 mph - I kid you not. It is so intrusive I can barely hear my Vance and Hines Big Radius pipes when Im riding! I will continue to use it, because it looks great, but ear plugs are a must folks.

Schuberth M1 Pro helmet in gloss white

Nicholas Evitts: Better than expected

Bought this helmet recently and after changing it for a better fit, I now find this helmet works really well. Its quiet I have a naked bike seems fairly warm and not ice cold given the lack of a chin bar, the plug and play comms set with the included remote control works really well too, and its light weight.. Overall, for me its better than I expected.

Shoei JO helmet in matt black

William Horribine: Mr

This is the best open face helmet I have ever owned. Typical Shoei quality - excellent. Very comfortable, the visor works well and for an open face helmet very quiet.
