Five TFX1 Airflow Short in black / red Product Information
The Five TFX-1 Airflow is one of the most ridiculously over-engineered summer gloves we have ever come across. Read Five's own description of the glove, and you'll just get confused, so we are going to try to and break it down, and communicate in 'plain speak' what the TFX-1 is all about.
It is, of course, a summer glove. It will be very pleasant to wear in hot weather, and it will be fine for off-road riding, but it's not a super, high airflow glove like some mesh gloves out there.
The palm is goat leather, which is perforated for extra breathability. The back of the hand is basically made from a Nylon material interspersed with areas of mesh. The mesh features in the forchettes of all the fingers. The rest of the fingers are constructed with an Elastane-like material. The mesh also features on the thumb. The fingers are all constructed with external seams for comfort.
For protection there's a hard, knuckle protector that's vented for airflow. You also get vents on two of the fingers. The knuckle protector is backed with foam for comfort, and to absorb the energy of an impact. On the palm there's a large Superfabric slider that runs into the base of the thumb where, below the SuperFabric, there's a pad that serves as a scaphoid protector.
On the palm there are three pads that are designed to absorb vibrations passed through the handlebars. This apparently is going to become the next big thing in motorcycle gloves.
There are two elasticated straps that connect the little finger to the ring finger to prevent them from being pulled apart in an accident.
The forefinger and thumb are touchscreen sensitive. There is a visor wipe on the left hand, but it's basically an absorbent pad, so is not like anybody else's visor wipe. The glove is lined with Coolmax for better breathability.
The wrist closes by means of a Y-branched elasticated strap that allows the cuff to be cinched tightly around the wrist.
The TFX-1 is rather special. There cannot be many summer gloves that have so much technology packed into them. But none of that detracts from how it wears. It's a supremely comfortable glove, yet one that feels very protective. Could this be the perfect, short adventure glove?
There is also a sand / brown version.
