Motorcycle Base Layers
Wearing the correct base layers is one of the most important things to do when you are motorcycling. Too often customers spend a lot of money on a decent suit and then ruin it by wearing a cotton T-shirt! Base layers need to be a proper breathable material so they help you regulate your body temperature. It is about keeping warm in winter, keeping cool in summer, allowing your body sweat to evaporate effectively and allowing your expensive suit to do its job properly. Even in winter sweat needs to escape to keep the body dry. And this is crucial because if you are wet on the inside, and the temperature drops further our bodies will lose heat 20 times faster through a wet environment than a dry one. The base layer is a building block in winter on top of which you need a technical mid layer.

Klim Zephyr Wind shirt in black
I can truly that this is an essential piece of kit for everyone no matter the gear you already have. I have worn this under both a Rukka Halversons jacket the difference something so thin makes is impressive. I was sceptical at first but the proof is in the wearing. I was also fortunate to get it when on sale which was great but Id have happily paid full price having tried it now. Ive also used it when not on the bike up in Newcastle for their trophy parade football fans will know what Im talking about out on the town moors where even the Geordies were saying it was cold but thankfully I decided to wear the Klim Zypher wind shirt under my jacket which worked a treat whilst still looking cool as a causal piece of clothing. Only thing is shouldnt bought a large instead of XL as it stretches nicely but all in all a 1010 from me.
Klim Zephyr Wind shirt in blue
What a great bit of kit. Purchased these for both myself and my wife, and have been really impressed. Scrunches up really small in your pannier, provides another layer that can be thrown on and off with ease and fits really well. I wore it over my heated jacket on the way to work the other morning with the Klim Marakesh jacket over the top and despite it being frosty when I left home I was toasty warm. Great bit of kit - wish Id bought one sooner !
Klim Maverick down jacket in asphalt / black
This massively expensive bit of kit has been on my radar for a long time...finally took the plunge...its very good indeed. Is it worth the price tag?...well it certainly does what it says on the tin, so...I choose to try to move on from smarting from the expenditure and revel in cosiness instead! I guess this is all a part of buying American goods at the present time...an activity I currently in all good faith cant help but question somewhat? But the Maverick is everything it is touted to be so...over to you....
