Rukka's Active-R mid-layer jacket is, on one level, neither one thing nor t'other.

 

It's not a superlight, windproof layer like Klim's Zephyr jacket. Nor is it an amazingly effective, insulating layer like, say, a 200g merino top from someone like Icebreaker.

 

It is designed for the bike; and it is going to provide some protection from the wind, and it will insulate body heat to a degree, but there are warmer and more windproof garments out there.
