Klim Maverick down jacket in petrol blue Product Information
It was Belstaff that first came up with the idea of a down jacket as a mid layer, but it was Rukka that made the idea work with its Down-X. Like the Down-X, the Maverick is made from 90% goose down and 10% goose feather.
The outer is made from a windproof material; it also has a waterproof coating. The jacket is going to be incredibly insulating, but the beauty is that, worn beneath a motorcycle jacket, it takes up almost no room. It is also easy to carry when it’s not being worn; in fact, the Maverick actually folds up into its own pocket.
The other benefit of a down jacket, of course, is that off the bike it can just be worn as a kind of casual winter top. It seems appropriate that Klim should have a jacket like this in its range because, in most cases, Klim jackets do not come with a thermal layer. The Maverick is therefore going to be the perfect mid-layer for just about any Klim outer jacket, although it will work just as well under any motorcycle jacket.

Robin: Very pleased so far...
The Klim Maverick is for me the final element of the Motolegends layering concept. I have already put Klims Marrakesh and Zephyr jackets to the test, together with the Scott Ergo rain suit during a recent tour of northern Spain. The good news is those elements worked brilliantly well either in combination or individually to provide a comfortable riding solution for the prevailing weather conditions. Alas I have yet to put the Maverick to the ultimate test of wearing it underneath my Marrakesh whilst riding in cold weather. It might be early November here in the UK, but the weather is still unseasonably warm. What I can say is the Maverick is very lightweight and not at all bulky, its comfortable to wear and fits well beneath my Marrakesh jacket. In terms of warmth I have only worn the Maverick whilst walking, albeit not its intended use, but nevertheless it worked well keeping me plenty warm enough on a not so cold day. The Maverick also works very well as a destination jacket, the only clue to it being a motorcycle jacket is the brand name Klim. Whilst the jury remains out over its cold weather performance, the Maverick is looking good so far. Overall I am impressed with the quality and appearance of the product. Should it fail to live up to cold weather expectations I will update this review accordingly...
Stephen: Klim Maverick
Pleased with this jacket on and off the bike. I watched the product information video on the Klim Maverick Down jacket and ordered it in blue. These product videos are vital for customers who cannot visit the shop in person, and are one of the reasons I buy from Motolegends. The quality of construction, materials and fit of the Klim are fantastic. Another great purchase from Motolegends.
F D: Warm and wind proof
This is definitely a warm layer. I wear it under the Latitude to about -7 C for a couple of hours before its time to shelter. But three aspects that are less talked about. Its seriously wind proof too. Like the outer is made of the Zephyr material. And that contributes significantly to keeping you warm. Also, its definitely a road fitted cut, definitely not an off-road loose cut. Again great for my on-road use and therefore easily fits under a Latitude or a Marrakesh, but something to keep in mind. Not much room to wear something thick under it. Finally, the collar is fairly thick. It compresses nicely, but if youre used to wearing a scarf and have a snug fitting Ill at on your jacket, you may have to swap scarf for neck sock. Not a big deal but just a consideration. Overall, its so comfortable that I wear it as my winter jacket in and off the bike now. Thanks Klim and Motolegends!
