D3O Ghost Level 2 hip or shoulder armour set Product Information
D3O, it would be no exaggeration to suggest, transformed perceptions about motorcycle armour. Its non-Newtonian formulation created a soft armour that became softer still as it absorbed heat from the body. But on impact it hardened to absorb the energy of a blow.
More recently, D3O came out with a new, beermat-thin armour called Ghost. Unlike usual armour it was totally flat, and simply moulded itself around the body joints that it aimed to protect. It delivered the same level of protection as traditional, shaped armour but the beauty of it was that you could barely feel you were wearing armour at all; especially off the bike.
This original Ghost armour proved hugely popular as many bikers upgraded to it from the protectors in their existing garments. But, for some, there was an issue; it only met the lower, Level 1 safety standard. Most people were relaxed about this because it was normally worn in lighter weight, more casual garments where traditional, shaped protectors often felt a little cumbersome.
Well now Ghost comes in a Level 2 configuration. Now, at the threshold, Level 2 armour is twice as protective as Level 1 armour, although that does not necessarily mean that Level 2 Ghost is twice as protective as Level 1 Ghost. But what we can be clear about is that it is more protective.
The new armour is thicker than its predecessor. The new armour is not totally flat; towards the centre it is thicker. In fact, in the centre Level 2 is twice as thick as level 1, but it is still extremely pliable and will not look, or feel, out of place in the lightest jean or summer jacket.
If you’re the kind of person who always wants to be as well protected as it’s possible to be, you need to look at D3O’s Ghost Level 2 armour. It’s pretty amazing. And as with Level 1 Ghost, it comes in two configurations.
The larger size does knees and elbows. The smaller size works for hips and shoulders. Both come with or without Velcro.
PLEASE NOTE: the Ghost Level 2 armour is in our bulk warehouse and not in the Guildford shop.

Robin: Upgrading my Rokkers...
Last year I bought a pair of Rokker Legend jeans, which Im more than pleased with. Theses jeans come with D3O Level 1 Ghost Armour for the knees hips, which due to its flexibility doesnt reduce the comfort of the jeans themselves. Now of course we have D3O Level 2 Ghost Armour, which is designed to be more protective than Level 1, so I decided to upgrade my Rokkers to Level 2. Theres no doubt the Level 2 adds a little more bulk to my jeans and its not quite as comfortable as the Level 1, but that I guess was always going to be the be the trade off. Up to now Ive only ridden in lower temperatures, but I guess the Level 2 armour should be more compliant in warmer weather. Overall Im pleased with the result, which should provide a better level of protection. Would it be a good idea if Motolegends were to offer the option of D3O Level 1 or Level 2 when purchasing riding jeans?...
F D: Dont leave home without them
Ive always thought hip armor might be more useful that knee armor. If I fly off the bike, hips are a more likely point of impact and the damage to hips harder to repair. This armor seems twice as thick as the Level 1 but still fits in my Rokker Rokkertech Slim Tapered jeans without having to go up a size. They are pliable and comfortoble, like all Ghost Armor you hardly notice theyre there. I wish they made these a little larger, like say those in the Dainese JDyneema jeans, to provide better coverage of the hip bone. Other than that, these are hard to beat for all-day touring and walking around comfort.
Dave Smith: Perfect
I replaced the original hip knee armour in my Oman pants. The original stuff was very stiff at times a bit uncomfortable. This new armour fits very well is nice flexible, plus it allows air to get through too. Perfect!
Charlie: Game Changer
Had a pair of unlined kevlar jeans that the hip armour made you feel bulky. Seen the D30 Ghost advertised and thought allow expensive they would be better. Well its like you have no armour at all from a comfort point of view, they are brilliant. My jeans now feel like a normal pair of jeans and I really dont notice the knee or hip armour to be honest the previous knee armour wasnt an issue. I can also just transfer the d30 to my leathers or other pairs of jeans. I obviously hope to never test the protection the armour offer but the design does inspire confidence that should the worst happen they will perform as expected. Highly recommended and as usual superb customer service from Motolegends. Really wish I lived closer to you so I could sample all the other lovely gear you do.
James Dean Fuller: Like your not wearing anything!
Just installed in my jacket and its like your not wearing any armor at all. Will order more for my other jackets right way. Highly recommended!
