XPD Moto PRO H2OUT boots in black Product Information

XPD is the footwear division of Spidi in Italy. Many years ago Spidi agreed with its near-neighbour Sidi that it wouldn't market boots under its own name, in order to reduce confusion in the market. And so Spidi came up with the XPD name which, when said quickly, sounds a lot like Spidi. Well, if not a lot, then a little!

A few years ago, Spidi poached the head of design from another Italian footwear brand, Forma. The brief was to turn XPD in to a world-class, motorcycle, footwear brand. And for the first time, here in 2025, we are starting to see the fruits of this relationship.

The Moto Pro looks like quite a few other sneaker-style boots out there, but we reckon they are better put together than some, more robust than many, and definitely more stylish than most.

XPD claim that the entire chassis of the boot is leather. Some of the black pieces look more like a microfibre material to me, but we have no reason to doubt their word; and if you look closely you can discern a little bit of grain, so they're probably telling the truth.

Well the black bits, whatever they are made from, are interspersed with areas of green suede. Now, as someone who tends to be full of scorn for those who choose their motorcycle helmet on the basis of matching it to their bike, it behoves me ill to say that I really like the green suede. And I very much hope that this has nothing to do with the fact that my bike is green. The truth is that I just like green things. Indeed if I go or a walk in the summer, I can easily just disappear from view. Anyway, I digress; I like the way the boot looks. Let's leave it at that.

The boots feel very solid, in the way that some sneaker/trainer style boots sometimes don't. The Moto Pros are definitively at the more robust end of that particular spectrum. The counter in the toe is particularly strong. You also get a toughened counter in the heel. The ankles are protected by TPU packs. The shaft is padded throughout with memory foam to ensure, however, that protection doesn't come at the expense of comfort.

The boot comes with a waterproof membrane. It's the one that Spidi has used for many years, and none of us can remember the last time we ever had a problem with it. Now XPD, as manufacturers often do, claim that the membrane is 100% waterproof. But the issue with a short, ankle boot is that rain can bounce off the ground and get into the boot over its shaft. That's nothing more than the reality of a short boot. But to the extent that a short boot can be waterproof, the Moto Pro should be. The warranty on waterproofing, as with everything else on the boot, is two years.

Some people worry about laces coming undone on a bike boot. Well, it can happen. It would be unlikely that laces would get caught in the chain, but I have seen instances where they have caught on the peg, causing the hapless, stationary rider and bike to topple over. When this happens, it's cruel to laugh, but difficult to resist. But the reason I go on about laces is that these boots come with a strap that protects them.

The sole on the Moto Pro is a dual-density affair by Michelin. So it should deliver excellent grip and road holding. Inside the boot there's a comfort insole by Ortholite. Beneath this there's a rigid Nylon insole that acts as a kind of shank or lasting board to increase the boot's rigidity.

This is a somewhat superior, trainer-style, biking boot. Comfort and protection are delivered in equal measure. And we really like the design. Particularly so in the green colourway!
