Segura Chopper boots in brown Product Information

We have got to like the BOA-style lacing system that seems to, at last, be finding its way onto motorcycle boots. We think they really bring something new to the table. On a short boot, a zip on its own rarely allows you to get a snug fit. All too often boots that only have zip entry end up feeling like wellingtons. They’re not always comfortable off the bike, and they can be less than re-assuring on it, as they can feel as though they might easily come off in an accident.

Of course, the obvious answer is laces. But laces can be a pain, especially if the boot has a slightly taller shaft. You have to loosen all the laces to create an aperture large enough to get your foot in. Then you have to gather the laces in order to fasten them securely. You have to do the same in reverse when you want to take them off.

Which is we like the wind-wire systems. Klim use it on a number of their boots. Icon uses it on their Stormhawk boot. TCX also use it on a couple of their boots. But nobody seems to offer it on a trainer-style boot, which is why we were so excited when we came across the Segura Chopper boot.

The boot is pretty simple; it’s a cross between the TCX Dartwood and the TCX Street 3. It’s the style of shoe you might expect to see in a high street shoe shop. It is, however, a fully certified motorcycle boot. The chassis is suede. You get a gearchange pad, a reinforced toe box, ankle pucks and a counter in the heel. There is some kind of shank in the sole; and it is certainly the case that the sole is incredibly stiff transversely. The sole is non-slip and grippy.

Now the Chopper has a waterproof membrane; and it is the membrane that normally restricts how far you can open the zip on a short boot, but the membrane in the Chopper does not seem to restrict the opening. You simply turn the wheel in an anti-clockwise direction. This releases the mechanism, and you can then open the boot incredibly wide. Getting in should not be an issue for anybody. You then turn the wheel in a clockwise direction to tighten the boot as tight as you would want. It works well; it’s so much easier to tighten the boot than it is by using laces. But what we really like with Segura’s system is that you don’t have to pull the wheel out to undo the laces. All it takes is a quarter turn anti-clockwise.

We like this boot a  lot. On one level, it’s nothing special. It looks cool, it’s protective and it’s comfortable. But the truth is that there are quite a few boots out there that are like it. The USP is the lacing system. And the Chopper is the only trainer-style boot to come with one. We think! It is also exclusive to Motolegends in the UK.
