Shoei GT Air 3 helmet
Shoei tends to update its helmets every six or seven years, but the reason the GT-Air 3 has been launched so soon after the GT-Air 2 first came to market in 2019 is because of ECE 22-06. In essence it is a full face version of the flip lid Shoei Neotec 3 helmet.
So the starting point is that the Shoei GT Air 3 is a safer helmet than the GT Air 2. The new safety standard places greater demands on the helmet's shell to resist cracking and on its ability to absorb energy in an impact. The new standard also incorporates many other new tests, the most significant of which is a helmet's ability to withstand angle impacts.
The Shoei GT Air 3 and the GT Air 2 are very similar helmets. From 10 metres you could not tell them apart. It is a sports touring full face helmet if for the same audience and so the core fundamentals are the same. A modern, reasonably aggressive design with a subtle but still distinct rear spoiler. Internal drop down sun visor. Semi-integrated Sena comms. system the Sena SRL-03. And importantly for us at Motolegends, changeable cheek pads and inner parts to allow a custom fit. And now we can offer the new Shoei Personal Fitting System at our Guildford store.
FAQs about Shoei GT Air 3 helmets
What are the main differences between the Shoei GT Air 2 and GT Air 3?
The reason that the Shoei GT Air2 became the 3 was the need to meet the new, higher, safety standard known as ECE 22-06. The new helmet is quieter, has better venting, a stronger main visor, a centre locking mechanism for the visor, and a thinner, neck strap. In a nutshell, that's it; the same, but a little improved in lots of areas.
How quiet is the Shoei GT Air 3?
For a full face the Shoei GT Air 3 is a quiet helmet. Shoei has worked hard to extend the cheek pads further to the rear to help with noise reduction. The comms is super low profile so will not create additional noise.
What are the key features of the Shoei GT Air 3?
The GT Air 3 is a top of the range sports touring helmet. It has an internal drop down sun-visor, option for integrated comms. and great venting. It will suit commuters and tourers and can even be used on the track.
Other Shoei helmets available are the Shoei Neotec 3, Shoei Glamster, Shoei NXR 2, Shoei Hornet ADV, Shoei Ex-Zero and Shoei JO.
