Held Cold Champ glove in black Product Information
The Cold Champ is quite a unique glove, in that it is a laminated, Gore-Tex, winter glove.
It is made from a mix of textile and leather. You get leather on the back of the hand with goatskin on the palm. The wrist, two fingers and the thumb are textile.
For protection there’s a hard knuckle protector. There are pads on some of the minor knuckles. You get a scaphoid slider in SuperFabric and an extra layer of leather down the side of the hand.
The glove fastens by means of Velcro straps at the wrist and on the cuff. Concertina stretch panels make the glove more comfortable to wear. There’s 3M Scotchlite reflective material for added visibility at night. And a visor wiper on left forefinger.
But what makes the Cold Champ a bit different for a laminated glove is that it is also a winter glove. It’s padded with the hollow-form fibre Thinsulate. The glove also has a fleece lining on the upper part of the glove.
So where does this glove sit?
Well, as a laminated glove it will never wet out. And as it has Thinsulate it will be relatively warm, but a laminated glove is never going to be as warm as a similarly-spec’d drop-liner one, so it won’t ever be the warmest glove on the market. And it probably won’t be the most comfortable, as laminated gloves are not as cosseting as drop-liner ones. But everything in motorcycling is a compromise. The Cold Champ will never wet out, and it will be pretty warm. But there are gloves out there that are both more comfortable and warmer. But those gloves almost certainly won’t be as waterproof!

Winter_rider: Winter perfection and protection
I bought these Cold Champs years ago, so this is a long-term review. TLDR Held Cold Champs are the best winter gloves of the many I have tried. Mine have coped with biblical rain and never leaked. The visor wiper works brilliantly. Insulation worked down to zero degrees but needed heated grips when near-freezing. Gore Grip meant the lining remained firmly in place even with damp hands. They initially needed breaking in. But the clever design makes them feel more like a thick sports glove than a winter mitt. They are very comfy now broken in. Protection differentiates the Cold Champ. SuperFabric covers the entire palm, whereas other gloves generally have limited coverage. The pinkie finger has a double leather layer to protect against low sides. Many other gloves miss this vital pinkie protection. Knuckle armour is sturdy yet comfy. They lack CE level 2 certification but are reassuring nonetheless. The gloves are not cheap but last forever.
