We have always been slightly reluctant to get involved with motorcycle security. It’s a touchy subject, and we don’t like to make promises that we can’t keep; and the bottom line is this is not our field of expertise.

But recently we were approached by Squire about their Behemoth padlock and chain. We took some time; we did our due diligence. But now we feel that, whilst we can never promise that nobody will steal your bike, we can state with a good degree of confidence that, as far as motorcycling is concerned, this is the world’s strongest padlock and chain.

The spec. of the lock, and its almost comical dimensions, appear below, but for our views on this lock we have been very much guided by a chap in the US. Known as the lock-picking lawyer, he revels in breaking, picking, shooting and even blasting locks in an attempt to break them. He always gets there in the end, as he did with the Behemoth. But it took 60 5-5-6 rounds, followed by 40 .308 armoured rounds, followed by 20 25mm BMG rounds that will go through 8" of re-inforced concrete from the length of a football field.

Eventually, they broke the shackle, albeit not the lock itself, but such a mission had it been that our lawyer friend concluded by stating: “This is definitely the strongest lock in the world.
