Spidi RW waterproof jacket in green / black Product Information

First thing; the Spidi RW is a drop-liner jacket. There are those who have convinced themselves that they can't possibly leave the house unless they're wearing a laminated jacket. Clearly, that's a load of old rubbish. Most of us will be better off in a drop-liner jacket. It will be warmer. It will be more comfortable. It will be more reliable, and probably last longer. And it will offer better value. In anything less than four hours of rain, it will, of course, be totally waterproof. In more than four hours of rain, it will still be totally waterproof, but by then a drop-liner jacket may have started to 'wet out'.

Given that the RW is a drop-liner jacket, it is as comfortable as you would expect. The Cordura fabric is strong enough to earn the jacket an AA rating under EN 17092, yet the jacket's outer shell is still soft and pliable. It feels very cosseting. The fit is aided by adjustable straps at the waist that allow you to cinch the jacket in, or let it out, as required. You've got Velcro adjusters at the hips too.

The armour in the elbows is Level 2. The armour in the shoulders is Level 1. There are Velcro tabs that allow for a back protector to be worn. We can supply this in the form of a D3O protector; either Level 1 or 2.

There are vents on the shoulders. There are no exhaust vents, but nobody is suggesting that this is the jacket you'd want if you were traversing the Kalahari. There are four flap pockets on the front of the jacket, two of which are wateproof. There's another waterproof pocket on the inside. At the rear of the jacket  there's a large, map pocket. You also get volume adjusters on the biceps and forearms. At the sleeve ends, you'll find velcro flaps and gussets, but no zips.

Inside the jacket there's a 100g. thermal liner. It's not a destination jacket, so you cannot wear it off the bike. It's got a standard hollow-form fibre fill, so it's nothing particularly special. Yes, it's going to take the chill off a cold day, but we would, as ever, be tempted to discard it in favour of a down jacket that doesn't zip in, but that you can wear off the bike when you get to your destination.

Now technically there is a matching pant to go with the RW jacket, but we're not offering it. If you really need a suit, there are probably better options out there. For us this is a jacket you'd wear over a pair of single-layer jeans. It's just that kind of jacket. It's casual and easy to wear. For weekend rides, a short commute or weekends away this will be the perfect jacket. It's got everything you want; nobody needs anything more than is on offer here.
