Rokker Moto Ranger boots in brown

The Rokker Moto Ranger boot is new for 2024.

 

It's designed very much in the mould of a classic, work boot. It's a seven-eyelet derby boot, with three speed hooks at the top. The style is very reminiscent of the Redwing Iron Ranger boot. Ditto the cap-toe 1000 Mile boot from Wolverine. Some will be pleased with this, because both of these are classic styles.

 

The Rokker version is, of course, designed very much with the motorcycle in mind. The boot has an incredibly strong toe box. There's a reinforced counter in the heel too. What you don't get is ankle protectors; and that's a shame; it's kind of what one expects in a motorcycle boot. It's not mandatory, though, as there's a CE standard for boots without protection in the ankle. The sole is stiff, but as this is not a Goodyear-welted boot, there won't be a shank in the sole. And you certainly won't get the layer of cork between the upper and the mid-sole that you get with the Urban Racer; a filling that, over time, takes an impression of your foot for a near-custom fit.

 

The outer sole of the Moto Ranger looks like a Vibram one, but it's actually not. When it wears out, you should still be able to stick on a replacement, however. What you do get, that you don't with the Redwing and Wolverine, is a zip up the inside of the boot. This seems to be something that motorcyclists have come to value. I suppose that having got all the clobber on, it is a relief to find that the boots are easy to get on! Because the boot has no membrane, the gusset behind the zip is not overly restrictive, although you will still need to use the laces. 

 

Well, personally, we still prefer Rokker's Urban Racer boots. It's a tougher, more robust, and better constructed boot.

 

It is undoubtedly the case that the Moto Ranger, from the off, is going to be more comfortable and easier to wear than the Urban Racer. And the zip up the inside will certainly appeal to many motorcyclists.

 

But one of the most potent appeals of the Moto Ranger is going to be the price. It's just £249; and that's £100 less than Rokker's Urban Racer. In fact, this price puts the Moto Ranger within spitting distance of far more prosaic wares from the likes of Forma, Falco, TCX and Stylmartin. Now, this is not where you would normally expect Rokker to pitch its footwear, but it's certainly good news for those who have always wanted a Rokker boot, but who were always unwilling to stretch that far.

 

The Moto Ranger represents a brave new step for Rokker. We think a lot of people are going to like it.
