Motorcycle helmets | Free next day UK delivery

Motorcycle helmets are the single most important item of kit for a biker. There is quite an array of types of motorcycle helmets from a dizzying number of manufacturers. You can have an open-face motorcycle helmet, a full-face motorcycle helmet, a flip-up helmet (sometimes called a flip-lid or flip-front or even a modular motorcycle helmet). Then you might have an adventure motorcycle helmet (which may or may not be an off-road helmet). Some helmets are described as touring helmets but when you tour it might be important to have an intercom fitted so you can listen to music, hear your satnav or talk to your travelling companions. Deciding which helmet is best for you is not easy. We can help.

FAQs about motorcycle helmets

What are good motorcycle helmet brands?

At Motolegends we only stock the best motorcycle helmet brands like Shoei, Arai and Schuberth. Whether you are looking for a modern or retro helmet - we have it all.  We are probably the UK's largest seller of the ultimate sports tourer and commuter helmet, the Shoei Neotec 3 and give you the opportunity to try it against the closest competitor, the Schuberth C5 helmet.

What size motorcycle helmet do I need?

At Motolegends, we are specialists in motorcycle helmet fitting. We know  how a motorcycle helmet should fit and can help you work out what size motorcycle helmet you need. In Shoei helmets we can actually custom fit your motorcycle helmet using the new Shoei PFS (personal fit system). We've helped thousands of riders find their perfect fit through measurement and adjusting helmed headliners and cheek pads. For more information, view our guide on how to measure for a motorcycle helmet

How long do motorcycle helmets last / do motorcycle helmets expire?

All helmets have a manufacturing date but a motorcycle helmet doesn’t expire. Having said that, we are often asked how long a helmet will last. That depends on a few things but the received wisdom is around five years and most decent helmets have a warranty period of 5 years.

Are motorcycle helmet unisex?

Motorcycle helmets are unisex. In general, women have smaller heads and therefore ladies motorcycle helmets are normally the smaller sizes, but it is down to the fit and shape of the helmet. For some petite women, the weight of the helmet may be a consideration.

Can I ride a motorcycle without a helmet?

In the UK helmets are required for motorcycles. They must be approved to an EC standard the latest of which is EC 22-06. DOT helmets are not legal in the UK.

Are white motorcycle helmets cooler and safer?

White motorcycle helmets reflect more light making them slightly cooler in summer, and according to some research, may increase visibility on the road making them safer.  Sometimes customers come in wanting a particular graphic motorcycle helmet rather than a plain one. We won’t generally entertain that unless we’re confident the helmet model fits your head! This is the key safety factor. There is also plenty of discussion about whether a white motorcycle helmet is safer, or cooler. After all the discussion we still find that black motorcycle helmets sell the best

Schuberth J2 helmet in Sigma blue

Robin: Another excellent helmet from Schuberth...

I have long seen the benefits and shortcomings of open-face helmets and when my last one died of old age it was time to look for another... I was aware Schuberth were launching their new J2 and it was looking like a two-horse race between that and the Shoei J-Cruise 3. For a number of reasons, the Schuberth appealed to me, mainly the fact it was closely based upon their existing C5 flip-front helmet, which I already own and Im really pleased with. The excellent video presentation on the J2 by Chris helped me decide. Another plus for the J2 is the fact I could fairly easily swap my Schuberth SC2 comms system between the two Schuberth helmets. A five-minute job at most. Thus far I have only used the J2 once on a 120-mile ride, and Ive got to say Im very pleased with it. It oozes quality. The attention to detail is excellent and its as comfortable as my C5, although a little noisier, but as Chris explained in his video, those three decibels can make all the difference! The great advantage from my point of view is the greater field of view provided by the bigger visor and the much freer airflow on hot days. I entirely accept the fact open-face helmets dont provide the facial protection afforded by full-face and flip-front helmets, although there is perhaps a degree of compromise with the removable chin bar on the J2. The chin bar is much narrower than those on full-face and flip-front helmets, and the fact it isnt a permanent fixture doesnt fill me huge confidence in terms of protection should the worst happen. Yes, open-face helmets like the Schuberth J2 and the Shoei J-Cruise 3 present greater risks than full-face and flip-front helmets, but hey the greatest risk we take is simply getting on a bike in the first place. If youre up for an open-face helmet I can thoroughly recommend the Schuberth J2, and of course Motolegends for their superb customer service. Thank you...

Schuberth C5 / E2 / S3 neck pads

Rob: Schuberth c5 7mm neck pad

Arrived on time, Packaged well, the pad did exactly as I hoped and took the pressure off my forehead without making the helmet lose 57 size medium. This pad obviously fits other helmets is very easy to fit took about a minute.

Arai Quantic interior head liner

David Burns: Very satisfying.

I did not purchase my helmet at Motolegends, but after a few months of riding with it I decided that I wasnt happy with the fit of the Quantic. My previous helmet was an RX7-GP which had more of a race fit which is what I was used to. I ordered the 12mm insert to replace the 10mm which comes standard in a medium Quantic and the difference is night and day. I was sceptical that 2mm would make much difference but it was the tightest size Arai does. The helmet fits really snug now, but still comfortable and does not shift back on hard acceleration. Super easy to swap out, can be done in 2 minutes, no need to remove the cheek pads.
