Compared to the Jackson pant, the other Klim off-road pant we offer, the Dakar pant is technically a little bit more robust, which we can deduce from the fact that the chassis is made from a twisted-yarn, 640 denier Cordura. This is heavier than the fabric used on the Jackson pant. The material is also interspersed with panels of super-strong, 'Ripstop' nylon. For extra strength, you get 840 denier Cordura on the knees and seat. There is, however, a fair amount of stretch fabric on the Dakars; and so this should ensure that they are still very comfortable to ride in.

 

The use of stronger fabrics suggests to us that the Dakar is a pretty rugged pant yet, as with the Jackson trousers, they have not been tested for abrasion resistance under EN 17092. They are, therefore not CE-approved as protective, motorcycle wear. In some ways, this is a moot point because you can legally ride in any kind of pant you want. Klim's view is these pants don't need to be CE approved because they are meant for off-road riding only; and we can kind of go along with that.

 

Of course, many people will wear these pants on the road in order to get to where their off-road adventure begins. You just need to be mindful that if you do go road surfing, the Dakars won't put up a lot of resistance. 

 

You can fit armour into the Dakars. The armour pockets will take D3O Ghost, but really in a pant this wide in the leg, Ghost would not necessarily be ideal. You could fit shaped D3O, but we would go with knees socks, or something like Rukka's RPS AFT pants.

 

With the Jackson pants you get very large pockets, with adequate venting on the thighs. With the Dakars you get adequate pockets, but with very large thigh vents, although interestingly you don't get exhaust vents.

 

As with the Jackson pants, you get goat leather up the inside of the legs, although the strips of leather are longer on the Dakars. There's an adjustable, Velcro strap at the waist.

The main difference between the two pants, of course, is that the Dakars are designed to go over the widest of boots. And these pants will go over just about anything, we reckon. And once over the boot the leg opening is adjustable by means of Velcro strips.
