Interphone UCOM 16 intercom Product Information
This is the new top-of-the-range intercom from Interphone; and we would venture to say that it’s far and away the cleverest and most versatile on the market. It's called the UCOM 16.
The configuration is the same as the same as the 2 and 4 models; and that means that the control unit is super-slim, with the battery module fixing with a sticky pad to the back of the helmet. Now the other thing that the 16 has in common with the 2 and 4 models is that the unit is totally compatible with all Sena comms. systems. And that makes it unique. But the 16 is a mesh system. Now, for those who don’t know these things, mesh technology allows riders to form an open channel, so that riders can talk over much greater distances. In fact the U.COM 16 will connect with up to 24 riders. The only problem with mesh systems is that everybody in the chain needs to have a mesh unit for the system chain to work properly. Of course, the U.COM 16 will also work as a non-mesh comms. unit. The U.COM 16 is compatible with all Mesh 2.0 systems and all Bluetooth 5.0 systems. The system will not talk directly with Cardo, however.
The 16 also has a spec. that is better than the other models in the U.COM range. Here’s a brief run-through, although for a full breakdown see the bullet points below.
You can connect two phones to the unit at a time. Receiving calls can be voice activated. And calls can be shared over two comms. units. The unit will connect to all Bluetooth phones, to all sat navs and to all OEM TFT systems. Obviously, as we’ve suggested, the unit will connect seamlessly to any Sena unit. The 16 comes with larger, 40 mm High Definition speakers. The 16 also has an FM radio with an RDS function.
Talk distance on the 16 is 1.6 kms. In terms of charging, you can charge from empty to full in one hour. A full charge will give you 8 hours in mesh configuration and 15 hours in standard Bluetooth. A 20 minute charge will give you 6 hours Bluetooth, 3 hours of mesh.
The system, unlike most on-the-side Sena systems, is IP67 waterproof rated.

Alex: A definite improvement on other manufacturers
Ive used Sena for the last couple of bluetooths units Ive bought, as they're often thought of as the top tier manufacturer but in reality are often buggy and not entirely waterproof. This time, I got a Interphone UCOM-16 on recommendation despite me not having heard of them before. After a month of ownership, I wish to make my own hearty recommendation for them. The UCOM-16 model is fully compatible with all Senas without fault, but is also loaded with the latest Mesh 2.0 system which really is the bees knees. Audio quality and loudness much better than my previous Senas. Battery life much longer. I rode in a group of four, with the other three on various sena models and we had no issues but I had the best audio out of the group both TXRX. Plus its IP67 so in the heavy Welsh rain I had no issues at all. I have had the unit connected direct to my iPhone, as well as via my bikes TFT BMW. Both operated flawlessly. I would emphatically recommend anyone still clinging on to Sena or other manufacturers to move on to the UCOM 16, and if like me you were worried about riding in a group who all use Senas, really don't worry!
dave: Nice unit, but a user guide would be nice
No user guide for the product. Not impressed with that given the price of £250! But it seems a good product.
