Halvarssons Nyberg jeans in black Product Information
For many years we found ourselves not able to take Halvarssons' jeans particularly seriously. Even back in the day when all motorcycle jeans were Kevlar-lined, and looked hideous, Halvarssons managed to bring out some real shockers.
The market was less developed back then, so how jeans wore, and how they looked, was perhaps less important. People were so keen to ride in a pair of jeans that the finer points of styling were less important. Halvarssons' jeans did sell, so some people must have liked them, but we were often more than a little embarrassed by the the way they looked
That was until the Swedish company brought out their Rogen jean a couple of years ago. It was a single-layer jean, and it looked more or less like a regular, street jean. It was clear to us that the message was getting through.
Yet, we still weren't totally convinced. Instead of being woven with a high-tech, UHMWPE fibre of some description, the outer fabric combined Kevlar with cotton and Elastane. Now we all know Kevlar but it is, in the context of biking jeans, not a particularly strong fibre, and so even single-layer jeans woven with Kevlar tended to be a little thicker and heavier than we would have preferred.
The new jean was also not super stylish. It was no Rokker. It had more of a relaxed, 'dad' fit, and the connecting zip incorporated into the waist band made it look a bit more like a motorcycle trouser than a super-cool jean. But, despite our reservations, the Rogens had a lot going for them.
Now, we're not huge fans of chasing an AAA rating for the sake of it. This has become the default practice of the budget brands; and that's because making an AAA rated jean is not difficult. You just keep on going until you have created a material that is thick enough and heavy enough to meet the standard. And what this means is that there's often a trade-off with comfort and wearability.
This having been said, whilst the AAA-rated Rogens were never the lightest and easiest jeans out there, they weren't bad. And for those who were upgrading from a Kevlar-lined jean, they were still somewhat of a revelation.
And a lot of people seemed to like the more relaxed fit. We have already used the term 'dad' fit, but not everybody is searching for that 'boy-band' look; and anyway a lot of our customers are dads. In fact, more than a few are grandads!
And a lot of people liked the price too. Our favourite jeans, of course, are the Rokkers. We don't think anything comes close, but they cost £350, which puts them out of reach for some. The Rogens, by contrast, were just £200 meaning that they offered a lot for the money, especially as they came, as standard, with Level 2 armour in the knees and hips.
It was the success of the Rogen jean that caused Halvarssons to create a new model. That's the jean we're talking about here: the Nyberg.
In terms of construction, the Nyberg is pretty much identical to the Rogen. It's a single-layer jean. The outer fabric is a mix of cotton, Kevlar and Elastane. The jean has the same AAA rating. It comes with same Level 2 armour. And, just like the Rogen, it comes with a connecting zip to enable you to connect to any Halvarssons or Rukka trouser.
There are two main differences, however. The most obvious one is that the Nyberg comes in black. And even though, even amongst motorcyclists, blue jeans are more popular than black ones, there are some riders who will only ride in black jeans.
The other difference is that the Nybergs have a slimmer fit. And given the more relaxed fit of the Rogen that seems to make sense, but it may take us a while to work out how people feel about the fit of the Nybergs. If you're curious, you can always come and see us.
There are a couple of other minor points of detail we should highlight.
First, we don't think the Nybergs fit like most Halvarssons riding trousers. It might be the stretch in the fabric, but we think they come up a bit big; and that may be down to the stretch in the fabric. If you're unsure about what you need, check the waist size we have incorporated into the sizing.
Finally, leg lengths. We reckon the regular leg on Halvarssons' jeans is shorter than it is with other brands. The short leg is, therefore, very short. If your inside leg is anything above 32" we think you might potentially have a problem even with the regular length.
