Five TFX2 WP gloves in black / grey Product Information
Five calls the TFX2 an adventure glove. We're not quite sure what that means. In one way we would expect a real, adventure glove to come without a membrane, but that's not the case here. The TFX2 is basically a summer-waterproof glove. It has a Drytech membrane rather than a Gore-Tex one, but the membrane is 'laminated', so in theory this is a glove that will not wet out.
The topside of the glove is made from a stretchy, textile material. We like gloves with textile backs because they are less prone to absorbing moisture. By contrast, the palm is full-grain, goat leather. We like that too because goat is thinner than cowhide, but for its thickness is much stronger.
On the main knuckles, you get a hard, formed protector. This is foam backed for added comfort. There are more protectors on all the minor knuckles; some are made from rubber; some from foam. On the palm you get a huge Kevlar pad that serves as a palm slider if you do end up going down the road. You also get a panel of digital leather for better grips on the controls.
For comfort, there's Lycra running up in between the fingers. To the same end you get concertina banding on some of the fingers.
The glove has what one would call a mid-length cuff; the kind of cuff you would expect to tuck inside the sleeve of a waterproof jacket. What we like here, though, is that the angled elasticated, wrist strap allows the cuff to be tightened snugly around the forearm. It will fit inside just about any sleeve.
Something that Five has pioneered is a soft, chamois-like pad on the left, index finger that serves as a visor wipe. It's different, but it works. The glove also has a very effective touchscreen facility. On some gloves, this facility is unreliable. But here it works well.
So what do we think about the Five TFX2?
Well, we don't really get the 'adventure' tag that Five has given this glove. What we see is a supremely comfortable, laminated waterproof glove. And even that is something because not all laminated gloves are comfortable. This is also a very protective glove. And it has all the bells and whistles. The TFX2 is super lightweight, and we like its tight-fastening cuff.
If you want an easy-to-wear summer-waterproof glove that does everything you might want a summer-waterproof glove to do, this might just be what you're looking for. But, as ever, it's going to be about fit. If you like the way these gloves feel, then they won't disappoint.
At £109.99, we also reckon they are incredibly well priced.

Geoff: A real surprise
Light weight, supple and certainly waterproof. They seem a little on the small size, Ive deliberately gone up a size to a 10 to get little more room. Im usually a 9, these fit well. Although the fingers are quite long, that hasnt affected the great tactile feel the glove gives. Very comfy on a 350 mile day. After 3.5 hours of heavy rain they were dry inside. The rain just fell off the outside and there was no sign of them holding water. Really impressed. They are quite thin, so I expect the change to winter gloves sooner than usual. Surprisingly I prefer these to my Rukka Virium gloves.
Graham: Very comfortable
These gloves are super comfortable and very light to wear. The fit is spot on being snug but not tight. They go on and come off easily and no issues with the lining. They seem to be well made with protection in all the right places, luckily I havent put this to the test. I have used them on a few wet days nothing torrential but they didnt let a drop in after an hour or so in the rain. I would say they are a little bit on the small side as I usually take a size 10 and went for 11 which fitted like a glove ha ha They represent great value and I am very happy with my purchase.
