Daytona Road Star Pro Air GTX boots in black Product Information
At its core the Road Star Air is a standard Road Star. But it's a better vented version of that boot, and so is more suited to warmer conditions.
Like many Daytonas, the boot is constructed from water-repellent, greased, cowhide leather.
In terms of protection, the Pro Air is similar to many Daytona boots. So you get ankle protectors backed with open-cell foam. There's a wide, shin guard that is cushioned on the inside with latex foam. There's a plastic, reinforced, inner sole with a hot-dip, galvanised-steel shank embedded into the sole itself. You also get tough counters in the toe and the heel.
There are two zips to make entry and exit easier. The calf is adjustable for fit. The top of the shaft is faced with a soft, suede-like material for added comfort. The sole is an extra light, non-slip, rubber affair.
To make the boot a little more breathable, Cordura inserts in the forefoot and the heel replace the leather panels on other Daytona boots. Some of the leather on the Pro Air is also perforated. But the main difference, in terms of breathability, is down to the lighter, better-vented, Gore-Tex liner.
Now there are three different Gore-Tex liners used by Daytona in its boots. Their Duratherm liner is designed for temperatures of around 28 degrees down to zero. Their More-Season liner has an operating range from ten degrees up to about 30. The Carbon Grey liner is designed for temperatures from ten degrees up to around 35.
It is the Carbon Grey liner that is fitted into the Pro Star Air; and what this means is that this probably isn't the boot you want for winter commuting, but it is the boot you want if most of your riding is done in the summer months.
For those who are confused about such things, some Daytona boots are suffixed by the word 'Pro'. Now these boots are made exclusively for the UK market. Unlike standard Daytona boots, they come with a three-year warranty that includes the zips. Standard Daytonas, that are not 'Pro' boots, only have a two-year warranty, with the zips being covered for just one year.
