Segura Bora jacket in khaki Product Information

Segura is a French brand, part of the Trophy group that also includes Shark helmets and Bering. They describe the Bora jacket as the Swiss Army Knife of motorcycle jackets. That's perhaps a bit punchy, but it is true that the Bora does a bit of everything without being, necessarily, a master of anything. Does that make it a Swiss Army Knife? Maybe?

In styling terms the Bora is another jacket whose profile is based, in some ways, on the MA72; the military tunic that was worn by the American military during the Vietnam conflict.

The jacket is made from a material known as Serica; it's to all intents and purposes a Cordura-like fabric. The jacket has a soft handle, as it is called. The jacket is certainly comfortable to wear, yet the outer chassis is strong enough to earn the jacket a not-unimpressive AA rating under EN17092. It comes as standard with Level 1 armour in the elbows and shoulders. There is a pocket that will take a D3O back protector.

The Bora has a drop-liner waterprooof membrane. And what this means is that it is going to keep you dry for two or three hours in the rain. Much more than that, dependent upon the severity of the inundation, and the jacket will start to wet out. But that is only to be expected. This is not the jacket for the long-distance tourer, or the the person who commutes more than an hour into work throughout the winter months. This is a jacket for the urban commuter and the weekend rider. It's a great jacket that is going to do what it's meant to do, but it's important that you know what the Bora is, and what it does.

The jacket is equipped with four external pockets, and one on the forearm. There are two more pockets inside the jacket. There are straps to help adjust the volume on the sleeves; both on the biceps and forearms. At the ends of the sleeves you get zips and poppers, although you won't be able to get the sleeve ends over any kind of thick gloves.

We like a centre belt on a longer jacket, and the Bora has a very neat arrangement in this regard. You also get zipped gussets in the hem that will allow the jacket to splay a little when you're sat on the bike. There are two vents on the chest, and an exhaust vent at the back of the jacket.

For warmth, there's a removable thermal liner. It's nothing particularly fancy, and in some ways you would be able to find something with better insulating qualities for less bulk by seeking out your own layers, but the Bora's inner jacket will do a job.

The Bora jacket is what it is. It is not a technical jacket. But it will protect you, it will keep you dry, and it will keep you warm. It's a good looking jacket too. A Swiss Army knife? Well perhaps!
